Ann, I love this amaryllis. I love amaryllis, period, and this painting captures something about amaryllis that I'm especially drawn to. The other amaryllis paintings are beautiful to me too - open flowers, in the isometric - is that the right word? - flair of the blossoms, the petals, all pushing against each other - but this one really grabs me, with the subtle warm colors, and the simple swelling of the buds that strikes me as meaty and muscular, so substantial.
